Friday 18th May
Elliott Moore played his final game in Belgium for OH Leuven as his loan spell from Leicester City came to and. Unfortunately for the England U20 international, his last match ended in a 5-0 defeat with all five goals coming in the first half. The 21-year-old made 35 starts during his loan spell and would have no doubt benefited greatly from the experience.
Former Leeds United midfielder Henry Rollinson made his debut for Icelandic side second-tier side Thróttur Reykjavík in a 3-1 win over ÍR. The 19-year-old played the full ninety minutes, picking up a booking. Rollinson was making his first appearance for his new club having joined on loan from top flight side ÍBV where he had appeared on the bench once this season.
In the USL, Jack Barmby, son of Nicky, was involved a ten goal thriller. The 23-year-old played 70 minutes as his side Portland Timbers II beat LA Galaxy II 7-3, having been drawing 3-3 until the 81st minute.
Saturday 19th May
In Italy, Rolando Aarons‘ loan deal at Hellas Verona came to an end as he started in his side’s 2-1 loss to Juventus. The Newcastle loanee played 62 minutes in what was Gianluigi Buffon’s final game for Juventus. The 22-year-old played 11 times whilst on loan at Verona.
In Brazil’s Serie B, a frustrating time on the sidelines finally came to an end for Ryan Williams as he made his long-awaited debut for Paysandu. The 27-year-old former Ottawa Fury man played the last 15 minutes after overcoming paperwork issues.
Over in the top flight in Sweden, Östersunds midfielder Curtis Edwards scored his second goal of the season to help his side to a 3-2 win over GIF Sundsvall, who had goalkeeper Lloyd Saxton on the bench.
In Norway’s fourth tier, Valdres got back to winning ways with a 8-1 thrashing of Selbak. Dominic McGiveron assisted the first goal before Kyle Spence scored from the penalty spot after being fouled in the box himself and he then went on to provide an assist. Ryan Nelson also started for Valdres.
Sunday 20th May
In the Swedish third tier this time, Laurie Bell was on the scoresheet but his penalty was not enough to stop his side Karlslund losing 3-1 to Nyköping. It was the former Macclesfield Town midfielder’s first goal of the season.
Any weekend review wouldn’t be complete without a mention of Bradley Wright-Phillips and he didn’t disappoint again this weekend as he scored a brace of headers as New York Red Bulls beat Atlanta United 3-1. The 33-year-old now has eight goals in ten league games this season.
In the USL, It was a bumper Sunday as four Englishmen got on the scoresheet. First, Cameron Lancaster‘s fifth league goal of the season was enough for Louisville City to overcome an Atlanta United II side who started Jack Metcalf and Oliver Shannon.
Joe Cole scored for Tampa Bay Rowdies in their 2-2 draw against Joseph Holland‘s Pittsburgh Riverhounds.
Finally, Callum Ross scored the only goal of the game to secure victory for OKC Energy and Wilson Kneeshaw celebrated turning 24 during the week as he scored his first goal of the season in Sacramento Republic’s 3-1 win over Phoenix Rising.
