Here’s a look at some of the best kits which English players abroad will be wearing this 2018/19 season. There’s been a lot of transfers involving Englishmen moving abroad this summer (you can view a list of them here) so that gives us plenty of choice when it comes to beautiful new kits. There are some crackers in here!
Sampdoria third to be worn by Ronaldo Vieira
Sometimes less is more and that’s certainly the case for this new Sampdoria third kit. The Italian club are more famous for their traditional blue home shirts with horizontal strip as worn by Trevor Francis in the 1980s but I went for the third shirt here. It looks like it could have been a collab between Joma and Ben Sherman with that stripe multicoloured stripe down the side and will be worn by Ronaldo Vieira after the England U21 midfielder left Leeds to join the Serie A club last month.
Boruissia Mönchengladbach away to be worn by Keanan Bennetts & Mandela Egbo
I could have quite easily have chosen Gladbach’s away or third kits as both have the excellent pattern seen at the top of this away shirt. I’m not sure how to describe the green pattern but I really, really like it. Big fan of having MÖCHENGLADBACH on the back and at the bottom, avoiding any top drawer banter about all the players having the same name. Keanan Bennetts, a new arrival from Tottenham and Mandela Egbo, who joined Gladbach from Crystal Palace three years ago, will wear this beauty.
Wellington Phoenix third to be worn by Steven Taylor
Just in case former Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor’s New Zealand geography was not up top scratch, the A-League side have stuck a massive outline of the country on their third shirt for this season. The club’s other shirts this season are your bog standard Adidas templates but this shirt caught my eye and alongside the club’s new badge which was adopted last year, it is a shirt worthy of Taylor’s second stint abroad.
Pärnu JK Vaprus home as worn above (left) by Dave Moli
Pärnu Vaprus play in the top flight of Estonian football and this home shirt from Nike is not the most unique. However, what does make it stand out is that it has giant polar bear on it. Wearing it this season will be former Liverpool striker Dave Moli who has previously played in the Maldives which is about as far away as you can get from polar bear territory. The polar bear sponsor logo is clearly very versatile as you can see from the picture, even working perfectly on the coach’s training kit.
Vitesse away to be worn by Jake Clarke-Salter & Max Clark
Vitesse had an English jewel on the pitch last season in the form of Mason Mount and they seem to have adopted a jewel like design on the sleeves of their new away shirt. The shirt looks decent with the absence of a sponsor and the eagle enlarged behind the crest on the shirt is a nice touch – the club often let an American bald eagle fly around the stadium before home matches. Both Jake Clarke-Salter, on loan from Chelsea, and Max Clark will have to do will to top Mount’s performances from last year but they’ll certainly look stylish doing it either way.
Venezia home to be worn by Harvey St. Clair
This shirt is an absolute stunner! It is Venice on a jersey! The Serie B club have broken the rules with this effort, forgoing a sponsor to instead have the club’s name proudly across the chest. They have then added the colours from their bade to the bottom of the shirt, which then fade out in a very cultural, Venezian way. The lucky man who gets to wear this shirt is Harvey St. Clair, who joined from Chelsea earlier this summer but he will not be managed by AC Milan legend Filippo Inzaghi as the striker-turned-manager recently left the club to take over at Bologna instead.
Bonus shirt: Peña Deportiva third as previously worn by Jay Clarke
Okay this shirt shouldn’t really be on here but I just had to include it, it has a bloody man listening to headphones on it with a buzzing crowd of ravers! This remarkable shirt was produced by Hummel as the third shirt for third-tier Spanish side Peña Deportiva. The club are based on Ibiza and it’s good see the island’s party reputation has made it on to the club’s shirts. English-born forward Jay Clarke did play for the club last year but he left during the summer.
