Gary Martin signs for Icelandic champions Valur

Gary Martin has left Norwegian side Lillestrøm to join Icelandic champions Valur on a three-year deal.

The 28-year-old striker is no stranger to playing in Iceland having previously spent six years playing in the country for ÍA, KR and Víkingur Reykjavík. He joins Valur off the back of their league winning campaign in 2018.

In 2018, Martin scored six goals in all competitions for Lillestrøm having spent the previous year playing for Lokeren in the top flight of Belgian football.

His last spell in Iceland was very successful, he won the second division title with ÍA in 2011 before going on to win the top flight, cup and Super Cup with KR between 2012 and 2016.

He spoke exclusively to English Players Abroad about his move to Valur saying: “They are they best team in Iceland and offered me a great deal. I get the chance to fight for trophies and more time at home with my family.

“I’m really excited [to make the move], it’s a great city and great place to play football. I’ve enjoyed playing football here over the years and look forward to the future.

“I want to win the league and help my teammates as much as I can with assists and goals.”

Good luck to Gary and Valur for the 2019 season!
