Peter Gregory leaves Beira Mar

English defender Peter Gregory has today confirmed he has left Portuguese side Beira Mar.

The 22-year-old made six appearances in the Segunda Liga and also one in the League Cup during his time with the club.

In a statement on his official site, the former Portsmouth player announced he had terminated his contract with Beira Mar.

He added:

I hold no personal animosity towards the club, players or staff and wish them good luck for the remainder of the season.

The full back joined the Portuguese second-tier side in July from United States side Ventura County Fusion.

Gregory has also had spells with Nottingham Forest and English non-league sides Eastbourne Borough and Lewes.

 

English in action: 7th December

Belgium: Club Brugge 2-1 Zulte-Waregem (Pro League)
Zulte-Waregem suffered a narrow defeat against top of the league Club Brugge yesterday.

English midfielder Chuks Aneke started for the away side, fresh from his goal midweek in the cup.

However, despite playing the full 90 minutes, the former Arsenal player was not able to secure a win for his side as he picked up a booking the 2-1 loss. His side remain in 14th place in the league.

Belgium: Visé 1-6 Tienen (Third Division)
Tienen thrashed Visé to move up to 12th in the Belgian Third Division.

English defender Amardeep Singh played the entire match for Tienen, as they fired four second half goals to record a comfortable victory.

Germany: Meuselwitz 2-0 Auerbach (Regionalliga)
Two Englishmen started for Auerbach as they took on Meuselwitz in a battle between two of the Regionalliga Nordost’s bottom three.

Defender Korede Aiyegbusi and midfielder Moses Makinde lined up for Auerbach as they looked for the three points which would take them out of the bottom three.

However, they would have left the match very disappointed as they fell to a 2-0 defeat.

Aiyegbusi played the whole game but Makinde was substituted after 55 minutes, with his side already one goal down.

Greece: Asteras Tripolis 1-1 Panathinaikos (Super League)
Englishman Luke Steele started in goal for Panathinaikos as fourth hosted third.

The game started badly for Steele and his team-mates as they found themselves a goal down after 30 minutes.

However, six minutes later, his side equalised to secure a 1-1 draw. The result means Panathinaikos remain in 3rd place in the Greek Super League.

Greece: Acharnaikos 0-0 AOT Alimos (Football League)
English midfielder Jamie Moore was on the bench for AOT Alimos as they headed to Acharnaikos for a Greek Football League match, the country’s second tier.

The slight attacking midfielder joined Cypriot side Ethnikos Achna in July this summer but just two months later, joined AOT Alimos, where he has since made six appearances in all competitions.

With the game still goalless after 64 minutes, Moore was introduced as AOT looked for the win.

However, 25 minutes later, the English substitute was substituted as they game ended goalless.

Netherlands: Vitesse 2-2 Twente (Eredivisie)
Chelsea loanee Josh McEachran was on the bench again for Vitesse as they hosted Twente.

The English midfielder has not seen as much first team football as he would have liked so far this season out on loan, having started just one game all season in the cup.

The match was tied at 2-2 when McEachran was brought on in the 56th minute for his first appearance since early October.

The change failed to alter the match, as they game ended all square.

Netherlands: VVV Venlo 1-1 Roda JC (Eerste Divisie)
When English winger Medy Elito was brought on in the 73rd minute for VVV Venlo, the game was goalless.

Just five minutes later though, his side took the lead and thought they had secured the victory until Roda JC hit back with an equaliser in the 89th minute.

New Zealand: Hawke’s Bay United 2-5 Wellington Phoenix Reserves (ASB Premiership)
English midfielder Ryan Tinsley started as his side Hawke’s Bay United hosted Wellington Phoenix Reserves in New Zealand’s top division.

The former Nottingham Forest man made it two goals in two games when he fired home a penalty kick in the 31st minute.

However, Wellington, already two goals up at the moment, would go on to fire a further three goals in the second half to win 5-2.

Portugal: Beira-Mer 1-2 Feirense (Segunda Liga)
English defender Peter Gregory started for Beira-Mer as they hosted Feirense in a mid-table battle in Portugal’s second tier.

Gregory’s side had a great start, taking the lead after just four minutes but Feirense hit back with two first half goals of their own to win 2-1.

The former Portsmouth defender played the whole match.

 

 

English in action: 3rd December

Belgium: Zulte Waregem 2-1 (AET) Lierse (Belgian Cup)

Both Zulte-Waregem and Lierse are in the bottom three of Belgium’s Pro League so the last 16 of the national cup offered a welcome distraction for both sides.

Starting for the hosts was former Arsenal attacking-midfielder Chuks Aneke, and he gave his side the perfect start with a goal in the fourth minute. It was the Englishman’s third goal of the season.

The 21-year-old was later substituted in the 86th minute as the game headed into extra time. Waregem managed to secure passage into the next round of the cup with a goal in the second half of extra time.

Greece: Panthrakikos 1-0 Platanias (Super League)
To Greece, where two Englishmen faced each other in the country’s top tier.

Both Panathrakikos’ Hakeem Araba and Platanias’ Walter Figueira started on the bench for their respective sides.

The hosts took the lead in the 17th minute and the scoreline was unchanged when the English duo entered the action. First, Araba made his way onto the pitch in the 79th minute and then four minutes later, former Chelsea forward Figueira joined him.

Neither of the pair managed to stamp their mark on the match as it ended 1-0.

India: Pune City 2-0 Mumbai City (Indian Super League)

Jermaine Pennant in action in this year’s Indian Super League.

Jermaine Pennant was once again in his side’s starting line-up as Pune City hosted Mumbai City in the Indian Super League.

A second half brace from Nigerian forward Dudu was enough to secure victory for Pennant’s Pune, as the English winger was substituted in the 70th minute. The former Stoke City man has now only completed 90 minutes in one of his five starts.

Portugal: Chaves 3-0 Beira-Mar (Segunda Liga)

After four substitute appearances, English defender Peter Gregory made his first start for Portuguese side Beira-Mer as they travelled to Chaves for a Segunda Liga clash.

The 22-year-old, who featured for Portsmouth in the Championship four years ago, played 76 minutes before being replaced, with his side already two goals down.

With Gregory off the pitch, his side conceded another goal as they lost 3-0.

English in action: 30th November

Five more expatriates took to the field this Sunday.

Belgium: Union Saint-Gilloise 3-0 Tienen (Third Division)
English defender Amardeep Singh was on the wrong end of a 3-0 defeat in the Belgian Third Division yesterday.

He started as his side Tienen travelled to 7th place Union Saint-Gilloise, looking to end a streak of two consecutive losses.

However, after just 14 minutes Tienen were a goal down and despite Singh playing the full ninety minutes, he could no prevent a three goal loss.

Greece: Panathinaikos 2-1 Veria (Super League)

Luke Steele was back in goal as Panathinkaikos hosted Veria, in a match between two top eight sides.

The hosts took a two-goal lead inside the first fifty minutes of the game and despite Veria pulling a goal back midway through the second half, Steele and his team-mates held on for the three points. The win sees Panathinaikos move up to fourth in the Greek Super League.

India: Kerala Blasters 0-1 Chennaiyin (Indian Super League)
Player/manager David James started between the sticks as his side Kerala Blasters hosted Chennaiyin in the Indian Super League.

However, the former England international lasted just two minutes before being forced off with injury.

James was off the pitch as his side conceded a late 87th goal to lose 1-0. Fellow Englishman, Michael Chopra, was an unused sub.

Poland: Śląsk Wrocław 1-1 Pogoń Szczecin (Ekstraklasa)

To Poland now, and Śląsk Wrocław were looking to secure a first win in four as they hosted Pogoń Szczecin in the country’s top division.

Starting in midfielder for the hosts was Englishman Tom Hateley, who was making his 14th appearance of the season.

He played the full ninety minutes as the home side struggled to a 1-1 draw, having to come from a goal behind to secure a point.

Spain: Saint Andreu 0-0 Mallorca B (Segunda B)
English midfielder Connor Ruane started for Mallorca’s second team as they travelled to Saint Andreu for a Segunda B match, Spain’s third tier.

The 21-year-old was making just his third start of the season for Mallorca B, having joined the island side from fellow Segunda B side Constància in the summer.

Despite four bookings for each side, including Ruane who also picked up a caution, the teams could only manage a goalless draw. The result leaves Mallorca B just three points off the top of the table, despite being in 7th place.

On the bench
In Italy, both Roma’s Ashley Cole and Fiorentina’s Micah Richards were unused substitutes as their respective sides both cruised to victory.

In Portugal’s Segunda Liga, English midfielder Peter Gregory remained on the bench as his side Beira-Mer fell to a 4-2 home defeat by UD Oliveirense.
