English in Action

Tuck, Watson & Binns: Weekend review 9th – 10th June

Saturday 9th June

In the Malaysia Super League, Terengganu kept pace with the chasing pack as they defeated PKNP 2-1. Lee Tuck‘s sixth goal of the season gave Terengganu the lead and they managed to hold onto victory despite PKNP pulling a late goal back.

In Finland, Danny O’Brien laid on the assist for the only goal of the game as SJK U23s beat TPV 1-0 in the third tier of Finnish football. O’Brien has played for both the first team and U23s this season and so far has four goals in four games for the U23s. You can see footage of the 22-year-old midfielder’s assist in the clip below.

It was not a good day for the English contingent in Iceland however, as all six Englishmen involved in top flight action on Saturday suffered defeat. Sam Hewson‘s Grindavik dropped from the top of the table following their 2-0 loss to Breidablik. There were also losses for IBV and KA who featured five Englishmen between them.

Over in the States, there were several goal involvements for the English lads in USL action. First, Matt Watson scored in Indy Eleven’s 2-0 win over Atlanta United II, who fielded Jack Metcalf and Oliver Shannon. Watson is now in his 13th season of professional football in America.

Jack Barmby assisted the only goal as Portland Timbers II beat Rio Grande Valley 1-0 away from home. The result meant Barmby’s side move up to second in the Western Conference of the USL.

There was also an assist for Lewis Hilton whose Saint Louis side won 3-0 against Tulsa Roughnecks.

Sunday 10th June

Ryan Binns kept up his impressive run of form in the Swedish third tier as he scored his fourth goal of the season for Husqvarna. Unfortunately, the 22-year-old’s goal wasn’t enough to secure victory as they lost 3-1 to Kristianstad.
